What Color is my 75 4001?

Post by edski »

Anyone know the official Rick color names from 1975? I have a dark red, almost maroon bass. Not a burst finish in anyway. It would be nice to have the true name...

Wish I knew how to post a pic... Image but this e-bay item is the same color:

Yes, what they said! :-) It is a very desireable color and you are fortunate to have one. From that era the rare colors are Burgandyglo, Azureglo, Autumnglo, and Walnut. Instruments in these colors tend to fetch higher prices these days.

Ummmm ... the Finish Timeline at Mike Parks' website (http://www.the-music-connection.com/ricinfo.htm#fin) calls it simply "Burgundy", no "glo". The Color Key page from the 1975 RIC catalog, linked to on Mike's page (http://www.rickenbacker.com/images/cf75x-14.jpg), also refers to it as "Burgundy".

Hmmmm..I suppose adding the "glo" would be recognizeable, but it looks like Burgundy.

When I go the axe in 1980 (or early 81...really can't remember exactly other than it was the middle of 10th grade) my brother in law, who has a 67 or 68 360-12 said the color was "Wine"...have seen that description on a few eBay items.

Appreciate the digging around! It's also nice to know that it's not that common a color. Image I'll NEVER sell it (or any other guitar I own), but it's good to know it's value.

Sometime soon I'm going to figure out how the heck I get my daughters digital camera to talk to the computer, and then find a site that'll post the pics. Post up the 2 Rics I have (the 4001 and a 650-Dakota) and the rest of the "family". Image

My local Rickenbacker dealer back in the 70's added the suffix -glo to to every color name whether it was correct or not, it seems. Walnut was walnutglo, for instance. I learned it that way and it is hard to change. I have seen burgandyglo more often than burgandy. I don't really know which is correct anymore.

We must be coming out of the woodwork all at once. :-) I'd just posted the other day (in the '74 Burgandyglo thread) asking about my '75. I'll probably borrow a digital camera this weekend, but in the meantime, it's very much like the doubleneck here:

Christopher, what's the story behind the extra 6-string neck?

John, that particular guitar comes with an extra neck, you can take off the 12 string neck and bolt it on. It's from Mike Parks' site. Nice case candy with that one! Image

I thought those necks were screwed and also glued in? I remember reading someplace here that the first run of burgandy was simply called burgandy then when it was reintroduced it was called burgandyglo. I'm not sure how accurate my memory is though.

Sorry John - I had posted a response before running out the door for work last night, but it got lost in the ether. Steve nailed it though. :-)
