Beautiful indeed!
I though we decided all 21-fretters were from '71?

Quoting from THE BOOK (ahem):johnallg wrote:I though we decided all 21-fretters were from '71?
"The mysterious 21-fretters"
"Nowhere in Rickenbacker catalogs or price lists is there a mention of 4001 basses made with 21-fret fingerboards. Yet from 1969 to '71, an unknown number of them were made this way."

Like I posted in the Rick forum on TB, I didn't see any words in the book, with all the eye candy there. I'll have to force myself to read.bassduke49 wrote:Quoting from THE BOOK (ahem):johnallg wrote:I though we decided all 21-fretters were from '71?

Wasn't that the one that some one had put a small square-ish inlay at the 21st fret?leftybass wrote:That one was a restoration (a nice looking one too).......Dave's was/is brown-looking. It's interesting that they 21r's just sort of slipped out there.bassduke49 wrote:Quoting from THE BOOK (ahem):johnallg wrote:I though we decided all 21-fretters were from '71?

Well, at least at this point, at least 14 true 21r's are accounted for(one on the register is not a "true" 21r) and the earliest is not listed as such, though it is listed.
I have yet to list this one but will do so shortly.
My favorite 4001, it's too bad that Rickenbacker gave up on them….

A note to Gil or Peter would sort this, nice to keep them all logged.
