Transformer for the 1971 Rick Lighshow
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
I need the outboard transformer for the Rickenbacker Lightshow from the 70's.
does anyone know where to get one, or maybe someone knows how to build one?
Any idea where to get the schematics ?
I have contacted Pick of the Ricks and Rickenbacker but no luck finding one
or the schematics.

Hi Jim, welcome to the RRF!
The power supplys at Winfield Vintage are very good, and not a bad price considering the nice fit/finish of his product. I decided to make my own power supply, which was easily put together from parts at my local electrical supply shop for around $30.
They're very basic. It's just a standard transformer (as found in most wall adaptors) bolted into a box with a DIN plug on one end and a power cord on the other.

hello do you know the price on the one at Winfield, they are closed for a while?
Re: Transformer for the 1971 Rick Lighshow
I believe they were listed at $100 plus shipping cost.

From what I recall, the price went up to about $125, they are made after ordering them as well (so there is a delay).

Like what Collin said. An18v transformer in a box. I'll dig out some photos of one when I get a second.

It's not unusual to have to wait a little while to hear from Winfield, but it's well worth the wait. I can confirm this as a happy repeat customer myself.

Here are a few pictures of the inside of the transformer that I bought from Craig Brody (The Guitar Broker) a number of years ago:

Not pictures of the transformer (boooooring!), pictures of the guitar in action. Obviously!
Re: Transformer for the 1971 Rick Lighshow
Oh, I dunno. I find it interesting that there's no fuse on the line cord, just on the output. Could get exciting if the transformer itself shorts out.collin wrote:Not pictures of the transformer (boooooring!), pictures of the guitar in action. Obviously!
But yeah, pics of the guitar in action would be cool too...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Transformer for the 1971 Rick Lighshow
Given that the correct spec is 24 volts, I wonder how the light action compares with an original? Open/unloaded circuit, the originals measure out at about 28 volts.
Anyway, I imagine they run a little cooler at 18 volts, which might be a good thing.
