Selling my 1985 360-12, need pricing help

Post by mkiv808 »

Unfortunately, I've decided to sell my 1985 360-12. Although it's been an excellent guitar, I just don't play it enough for it to be worth keeping. Realistically, I can probably sell it and get a used Fender Deluxe and a couple other guitars (including a cheapo Dano 12-string when I need that sound). I love it, I just can't justify having a museum piece in the house. :)

I paid $1200 for it in 1999. I see 360-12's going for anywhere from $2000-$3000 on eBay. It's a fireglo with only a couple imperfections: 1. One non-original tuning peg (would love to know where to find a replacement), 2. one nick in the finish, 3. a couple clear coat scratches on the back - someone must've had a belt buckle on it. Other than that it's in amazing condition and has the original blue-lined hard case.

I'll try and post some pics up tonight.

Any ideas on what I should expect to get for it?

Welcome.

Good news, it's fireglo, which seems to fetch more.

Good news, it's '85, a desirable year to many, with a thinner neck.

Good news, OHSC.

Bad news, changed tuner and wear.

I wouldn't call it a museum piece, but it's still worth a few bucks. Maybe $1600? Just a rough guess. Try the for sale section here.

I think that's about right. The Register Pricelist says average is $1700, but the market has been soft lately and with changed tuner you might be looking at more like $1400-1600.

Pics would help with value estimate -- and with getting a matching replacement tuner, either from someone here or a referral.

Finding the tuning peg to replace it would be magic. These have the S down the left and DELUXE to the right of that, vertical letters.

Will get some pics up soon.

Serial # is YI 1597.

John, you've found your birth guitar! A September 1985 360-12!

You probably even have the missing tuner in your parts drawer to complete the reunion!

PM never returned!

I recently found a September '85 360/12v64, dead mint. It was local. It was stunningly gorgeous. It was a DOG to play. I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. The fact that my PHONE NUMBER was in the serial number made it even harder to walk away.
