According to this page - Mike Nesmith played a Ric 360-12 MG on the Monkees 1967 tour . . . that was loaned to him by Roger McGuinn.

(You will have to scan down to the bottom of the page, and check out the thumbnail photos, to see several photos - most especially there is a color shot on the right-hand side, which makes the Nesmith/McGuinn claim.)
Many years ago I exchanged a few e-mails with Roger McGuinn on the AltGuitarRickenbacker page. He said that he and Nesmith used to hang out together in his Byrds years, but said that he never played Mike's 12-string Gretsch . . . obviously, I never asked him about loaning a Ric to the Monkees.

Very interesting Mike. Alt.Guitar.Rickenbacker, wow a blast from the past.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: Monkees / Mike Nesmith
I was caught by surprise today while watching reruns of Boy Meets World and 3 of the 4 Monkees were on an episode. They played "My Girl" and "Not Fade Away" but I don't recall them playing a Monkees tune... odd I thought, could they not have cleared the rights for their own song ?????
