Re: 4002 pickup guts
What about the gold guards under the 4002 loaded guard... I see two 1st generation 4000 pickguards, one has a 6-pole button-top guitar in the neck position.

Yeah, I think those are far more significant that the 4002 stuff in that same photo. Sorry, Sepp, they just are.

John,
Thanks for posting the pix! What a great time it would be to look through all that stuff!

Hey, there seems to be something for everyone in the cage!! I'm not anywhere near RIC HQ but do all local rainbows terminate in that cage?? I bet they have to.jps wrote:Yeah, I think those are far more significant that the 4002 stuff in that same photo. Sorry, Sepp, they just are.

One word- Bantar.bassduke49 wrote:There had been a mention of a five-string 4005 bass years ago, but I never came across further evidence of any existing while accumulating info for the book. I would imagine that particular "R" tailpiece may have been made (or modified) for such a project, but I seriously doubt that a factory 4005/5 will ever turn up.

"Bantar" on google image search yields some, ahem, interesting results.
Re: 4002 pickup guts
I didn't even think of the Bantar; of course. The combination of everyone's two favorite stringed instruments!johnhall wrote:One word- Bantar.bassduke49 wrote:There had been a mention of a five-string 4005 bass years ago, but I never came across further evidence of any existing while accumulating info for the book. Thanks for that link, Ilan, I think that's the first video I've seen of a Bantar in action.

Mind blown.
Re: 4002 pickup guts
Cool, amusing video! I've never seen that before, funny to watch "lip synching" errors that don't involve lips.....
Still,easily RW's best solo music.

Re: 4002 pickup guts
Dave Cousins is the only man I've known or seen to play such a lovely instrument - probably why RW hired him for the session (plus their previous association with the Strawbs).
