4004L Sno-Glo only 15 Again What's the Deal?

Post by eddied »

Well I got shut out for a second time trying to get a Sno-White. First the 4003 now the 4004. Does anyone have a lead on either available? Chris @ POTR has two coming and spoken for. We all know that hundreds would be sold in white. Any help would be nice. Also, have a brand new 4004L FG on ebay if you are interested.

I'm not sure if this applies to the 15 4004L basses finished in Sno Glo, but this was the reason given for making 15 4003 basses in Sno Glo for the American market.

I'm not trying to be a whiner, but I'm not sure I understand the concept of only 15 for the states and lots for Germany.
Black market suppression, just like the Blue Boys were originally. The 15 sold in the US serve a similar function.

Not in this case, as all were sold in the USA. White is just such a pain to work with, hence the low production numbers.

White may indeed be a pain to work with, John, but I for one really appreciate that RIC roll their sleeves up and produce some every once in a while. My white V63 is just superb, and I thank you for sticking with this finish option, even on an occasional basis despite the hassle and difficulties involved for your guys.

There's one available at Wildwood Guitars. Good guys and they always seem to have a lot of nice Ricks.

Have to it if you're serious...

Now if there was such a thing as a matte jetglo finish on a 4004 like the rare C64s, that's the one I'd be all over...

Just curious, what makes white harder to work with than any other finish? Too easy to notice imperfections?

That and specks of other colors trapped in the finish, not to mention total pollution of the spray room, where the white gets into everything else. Even though the air flow is proper, the white pigment is probably charged such that it's attracted to everything else.

I agree with the contamination concern. My SnowGlo has a couple minor impurities in the finish...nothing I'm concerned about. I think these types of 'limiteds' also serve to stimulate the marketplace. As evidenced by a bunch of forumites scrambling to find one. Moi included.

Moreover, look at the backlog of orders RIC historically has created. By having work forecast, JH ensures employment for his people and strengthens the longevity of the company. Those product decisions can be quite the burden, when your people need to place food on the table. Musical instrument sales may be threatened quite quickly in a downturned economy. I support this type of marketing strategy, and I would wager whether its 15 SnowGlo's, or 60 RM1999's, it succeeds in keeping the brand viable, and our citizens employed.

I'll step down now.....:-)

IT arrived this evening! :D

I have already done a basic set up so I can use it tomorrow night with a local prog rock band that has been around in one form or another for about 30 years.

Pics will have to wait for awhile, sorry.

4004s look great in Snowglo!!! 8)

Love the fingerboard, it is a really nice contrast to the white and has really nice figuring to it. :D

Thanks to all at RIC for putting up with the trouble (in the finishing department) to make these Snowglo instruments. 8)
