"vintage" silver case ?
Fellas I was wondering about the new "vintage" silver cases . It looks like a lefty case with the compartment at the top side of the case , can anyone confirm this case is correct for a righty bass , also I see it's for the 4000 series , I plan to use it with a 4004cii , can you see any reason why it wouldn't be a proper fit ? Also I see 2 styles as per the link below to add further confusion... The part # as far as I can tell is
(PT# 94550)

A: So I just called the Lads at the main shop and they said " That case is for both lefty and righty basses " It works for both .

Yeah, I would think so... I have often thought it might be better to have the 'junk box' on the hing edge as opposed to the handle edge...

The official Rickenbacker price list:
http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/pricelist.pdf
Shows: 94550 For all 4000 series bass models 299
I have purchased a couple of this model from Musician's Friend and they work just fine. The ones I got do not have the compartment on the hinge side though, it is on the latch side...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: "vintage" silver case ?
Yes, it's a bit puzzling on the silver vintage cases, the new right hand 4003 cases are the modern black version whereas all the new lefties only come in the silver vintage style cases?
Must be a reason for it but I don't know unfortunately.

The black cases have a form-fitted insert for right-handed basses only. The silver cases are more ambidextrous so they can be used for both. Same goes for the raised-letter TRCs; there's only a right-handed mold. All lefty TRCs are back-painted acrylic.

Re: "vintage" silver case ?
Some of my Ricks came with black cases, while my V63 came with a silver one. Comparing both styles, I much prefer the black ones as I find they hold the headstock and neck more firmly (unless there's a problem with my particular silver case...).

I doubt that (unless they have changed the silver cases). I have a lefty in a lefty silver case. If I simulate a righty (ugh.. buhh...fretless wrote:A: So I just called the Lads at the main shop and they said " That case is for both lefty and righty basses " It works for both .
Re: "vintage" silver case ?
seems odd to me too but that is what the man said at the main office . I'm gonna just buy one and see what happens .

Re: "vintage" silver case ?
I have the same....when I wanted a new case for my Lefty 4003s8, Chris at P.O.T.R. got me a silver case that was specifically built for a Lefty bass.Wiker wrote:I doubt that (unless they have changed the silver cases). Re: "vintage" silver case ?
I guess what I was trying to say is that the silver case ("Vintage case") and its precursors are EASIER to make as a lefty case. Does anyone have the RIC hard case (SKB?) with a lefty insert?

FWIW, a more appropriate term would be achiral ...bassduke49 wrote:... are more ambidextrous ...

I think I would agree with you on that.
I do like the silver vintage case I got with mine, but I find it to be very heavy. Also I seem to sometimes catch my fingers on something sharp either on the centre fastener or the corner protectors.
Love the smell of these cases as well!
