Bass nut files

Post by vulcan_creedler »

Anybody know a good source for nut files that don't cost the earth?

Of course - if any nice person would like to lend me a set! I need to carve the slots into a set of new saddles for one of my 4003 basses, as well as fit a new nut onto a 4004. (I'm a assuming a new Ric nut will need some sort of adjustment once fitted!)

I read somewhere, that a good alternative is wrapping a bit of emery cloth/paper around a suitably sized drill bit.....hmmm....not so sure about that!

Interestingly there are only 3 file sizes there. All my basses have 4 strings. I hear they also make basses with 5 and 6 strings quite regularly.

There are more sizes: here

Or you can just be like Tony Levin and get a 3 string bass guitar.

The 0.042" width or 0.046" width guitar files would work for a bass guitar G string slot.
