At first I used a 10 set of TI flats. Then I switched to a 11set. There is only a small differnce.
BTW TIs need less tension and they feel smoother.
Now I think of a 12 set...

i am really curious to hear how those flatwounds sound, how brilliant they are, how much sustain they have, how vintage they sound, how long they last, how stiff they really are ...

Not upset with you, man. Just confused by your claim.Hotzenplotz wrote:Well, IMHO he said it more clearly. No reason to be upset or to argue.
Maybe a question of interpretation, maybe a differnt interview.
I do agree that Lennon probably didn't like the '64 as much (the '58s are where the magic is!) But he did make a LOT of music on it.
I'm sure that the headstock crack had something to do with it as well. Reportedly by the 70s the Miami was almost unplayable.
I think you'll find they've got a mellower sound than roundwounds. The "zing" of rounds is replaced by a bassier, smoother tone. The upside is that flats wear much more slowly than rounds do.zinzin wrote:i am really curious to hear how those flatwounds sound, how brilliant they are, how much sustain they have, how vintage they sound, how long they last, how stiff they really are ...

@Dan: Yes, peace!
As we know Lennon's utterances were quite different from interview to interview. I read that once when enlarging upon my 325 knowledge. I tried to find the source again. I could not find it so fast.
About the flats:
The resulting tonal mix is a different animal - but a nice one! Hard to describe.
Some like the stiffnes of flats, some hate it. I think it is nice, comfortable and "jazzy".
It changes the style of playing.

A bit less but enough, IMHO.... how much sustain they have
Much!...how vintage they sound...

Looooonger than rounds.... how long they last ...
Bendings feel strange... The two highest strings are the same like with rounds, BTW....how stiff they really are...

Re: Making my 330 sound like a 325?
finally got the flatwounds, pyramid golds - man ... they def are stiffer! hah! i was surprised, didn't expect 'em to be this different from normal strings. bending is hard ... def changes your way of playing, so true. vintageß yeah, babey! hahaha!
haven't recorded yet but will try to in the weekend. they are darker yes, but lucky me i have a biting vox ac15, so re-gaining some treble ain't my problem.
