Celestion Blue made for AC15C1??

Post by moleng1 »

I was trolling the Vox website and saw this -

http://www.voxamps.com/us/custom/ac15/

Looks like Vox has asked Celestion to make an Alnico Blue speaker to fit the AC15C1 cabinet?? I checked this cabinet against the other AC15 cabinets and they are all the exact same size.

I wonder if these speakers will be made available for sale to we AC15 owners for direct swap out?? Wouldn't that be cool??

Those Alnico Blues that fit the AC15 have been around for a very long while. In fact, it may be that all Alnico Blue speakers are the same size. A year ago, I purchased an AC15C1 from North Coast Music and they had an upgrade option, where, for a modest fee, they offered to replace the stock Greenback with a Blue. I availed myself of the option. I was told by Gary at NCM that Alnico Blue speakers could be purchased, if I wanted to install the speaker myself.

Let me correct my last post: I'm pretty sure there is only one Alnico Blue speaker, and so the question of speaker size is moot. You can either buy one and install it yourself, or have your trusted amp tech or the folks at North Coast Music upgrade the speaker for you.

My understanding was that the bell on the blue interfered with the tubes in the amp, that's why I was thinking Vox may have asked Celestion to make a blue that would fit properly in the AC15??

What is the clearance between the speaker and the tubes in this amp?? Is it really close??

I purchased my AC15 from Chris at POTR in July, he said it was a 300.00 upgrade and in his opinion it is a better sounding speaker.I have to a agree with him. As far as I can recall the Alnico blues have been around for awile and they can be swapped with the clestions with no problems. Gary

It's an AC15CC1. Lots of room for the Celestion Blue.

I have AC30's and AC15's.. some with Blues and some with Greens.. There is not a huge difference. The Blues might be a little cleaner - better for recording. The Greens seem better suited for stage.

If you want to make a REALLY drastic improvement, swap out the tubes for the new Mullard Reissues. I guarantee you will take two steps back and wonder if you bought a new, more expensive amp. The difference in tone is astounding and immediately noticeable.

The compliment for the AC15C1 is 12AX7 (x3) and EL84 (x2). I have an extra brand new set from Amplified Parts. I bought an AC15C1 used from Guitar Center so ordered these contemplating its arrival. When I went to swap them in, I found the amp already had Mullards in it. Bonus! Anyway, if you want them I'll make you a deal.. just send a PM.
