Forget a F$nder Squier, Mike - Get her an SX Rondo.
Damned good basses for the money. Easy to play, look tidy - and for the price they don't sound half bad!

$119.95 - Can't go wrong.

I had a couple of the sx basses ... they are ok ... slightly inferior to a mim fender ... not bad for the money ... I don't like their current headstocks ...
And the Jetglo 1979 4001 is a good bass ... Jaymi did some of the restoration and I finished it ... Jaymi fixed the bridge ... he took of the leo quan bridge ... I restored the wiring ... it is standard Ric wiring minus the capaciter and ric-o-sound ... and I used 250k pots for tone instead of 500k which means the treble rolls off a little faster ... I also did a good wax job and cleanup on it ... and i replaced some of the cracked plastic and rusty and tarnished chrome ... but what really brought it to life was the GFS 8.5k scatterwound toaster style pickup that I put in it ... so now the bass has the treble bite of the 70's bridge high gain pickup and plenty of bass from a hotter neck pickup ... it can be blended from screaming bite to smooth and round ...
If you don't mind me saying so ... I am getting pretty good at tweaking / setting up / restoring / customizing ric basses ... I did some of my learning on those cheaper sx fender style basses ...

most of the newer 4003 basses only need a little bridge and truss rod adjustment ... that is pretty easy ... they usually come from the factory with the action a little high ... also most of my basses (ric and fender) need a little seasonal adjustment ... in the winter here in Michigan the humidity goes down and the wood shrinks and the truss rod needs to be tightened and the bridge lowered ... then in the summer it gets humid and the wood expands and the truss rod needs to be backed off and the bridge raised ... also most of the unbound necks need to get the ends of the fret wire dressed due to fret board shrinkage ... I usually have to do this at least once to most of my basses ... on the bound neck 4001/4003 basses the binding will keep the edges of the frets from protruding ...
