They really earned that plug - brought us a FEAST of pizzas!!! There were at least 20 people involved in that production (counting the Part II show with different guests) and NO one left hungry!

Very nice, Jdog. A 12-string fits Christmas carols perfectly.
What was your rig setup for this show? If those are the stock hot toasters, how'd you get them to sound so bright and clear...without making one's ears bleed?

Thanks! Those are scatterwound toasters through a JangleBox (the first version, black) and Boss CE-2 into my Fender Cyber Twin, set to Bassman for the first few songs, then set to Princeton Chorus for the last few. We miked one of the amp's speakers and ran a stereo pair of XLR's out of the back. I have no idea which of the three guitar tracks they mixed with, one, two or three.
Edit: I might not have used the CE-2, now that I listen back. Or maybe I switched it on at Federal Center SW instead of switching amp channels. I have no idea. See why it's futile to ask Paul McCartney what ______ he ran his _____ through when they recorded _______ in 196_?

Thanks for posting, Jason. Nice guitar work, and that 12-string tone on the opening track is among the best I've ever heard! I had my 330/12 and one of my 360/12's appointed with scatterwound toasters. (My 360/12c63 has a lower-impedance neck pickup than the 7.4k toasters). I've tried all three through my JangleBox JB2 (with the JangleBoost engaged) and into my Fender Princeton Chorus amp, and, although they sound great, I can't match your tone.
This leads me to ask a few embarrassingly simple questions about the guitar you're playing in the clip. That guitar looks very much like my 360/12c63 (same body shape, same binding, pickups look the same, same knobs, same tuners, same tailpiece), but with a comb added to convert the guitar into a six-string as needed. What is the model number of that guitar, and does it have the same pickups and X-bracing as my C63?
Something's missing. Could it be the patch on your Cyber Twin? Or is there some other secret, like your picking technique? What gauge pick do you use? How do you hold the plectrum? Is there a specific angle at which you attack the strings? Do you recall the settings on your JangleBox when you recorded that first song?
I'm sorry to deluge you with questions, but I was really struck by your guitar tone, particularly when picking arpeggios (VERY McGuinn). Any advice I can glean from you will be much appreciated!

Thanks for the kind words, Robert. It is a '98 360/12V64 with TI flats. The top bracing is probably quite different, but as they say, tone is often in the fingers, or in this case the pick. It's a standard one, about 1.0 mm. The JB is as I always set it, either normal or bright, both knobs at 1:00.Folkie wrote:Thanks for posting, Jason. Sure, I'm happy to help. That video gets pretty close up. Let me know if you want a better angle, I could make a little cell video at home for you. The simplest way to describe my picking is to constantly be playing a note. So if I'm doing eighth notes, and the melody has things like quarters and dotted quarters, etc, I pick lower strings in between the melody notes so that I'm hitting a string on every 8th beat.
