I'm pretty sure someone converted a 4004 to an eight stringer, but can't recall who. Dane, maybe?

It's interesting to note that the RIC foldout catalog/poster that was standard for years listed the 4004Cii/5 string with a cryptic note: "Also available as an eight string." But there's no evidence that RIC ever made one for "regular" consumers.

Well, there is one listed in the Register. No pics though so maybe it's a mistake...

That belongs to Tom Shiben, and if i'm not mistaken,it was converted by Dane. I think it also has a potato-headstock. I would love to give it a spin!
Ps Jdog,Tom is on the RRF groups on FACEBOOK,where he has posted some videos of this bass in action recently.

Yep that's me. And I still have it and live it! Great, huge sound.... Dane made some sweet adjustments to his 4001 set up and the luthier Bruce Johnson made it happen under Dane's watchful eye. I can't say enough about it. the slightly wider fretboard seemed to be set up for multi-string setups. I got the bass and hardware and sent it to the Bruce... a few months later it came back... SCHWEET!!!

Neat!

The only RRF/Rick fb group I do is Clank and Jangle. Got tired of all the deletions and censoring.

Hmm, seems to work for me, but I'm a member already. If I use another browser that doesn't have my FB login info I just get a page that says I must log in to continue...
