eBay 660/12TP question??

Post by moleng1 »

There is a Rickenbacker 660/12TP on the bay right now, it seems to have a few things that might affect it's value and I'd like to know if my thoughts are true??

The guitar doesn't have, what I thought was, the stock silver/black case. It is also missing the COA, and the optional non signature shark fin to save the signature one from getting scratched.

Is it possible to get a new COA for this guitar from Rickenbacker? Does the missing case and shark fin make this guitar less valuable in the future?

Lastly, is this guitar well priced for the above discrepancies??

It's in the register, but with a COA, it looks different, but of course the tiny pics in the reg compared to the huge ones on the bay??? Who knows?

AFAIK, they will not issue a new COA, but I did get a personalized letter from customer service at RIC for my Townshend LE stating that it's serial number was one of the original 250 etc.

That's nice to know, but I think I'll get hold of Rickenbacker to make sure before I even think of bidding. Thanks

. . . Does the missing case and shark fin make this guitar less valuable in the future?
A silver/black case blue lining would not be that hard to come by if you really wanted one. The lack of that case might affect value by $100 or so. You could have a matching upper pickguard made for about $25.

IMO the guitar in question is reasonably priced, though you might find one with a COA and silver case for the same price or not too much more.

Thanks for the input Ron, appreciated!

The previous owner knows!

That was the original case when I bought it, and I had no reason to think that it ever had a different case..

About the COA: I have not been able to locate it from having taken it out of the case when I took the guitar to one of our local get-togethers. I am still sort-of looking for it (I have been busy with other stuff).

And we know who put that "play wear" on it, don't we, Jake! And Mark P.!

So can you tell me a bit about the guitar?? How long ago did you sell?? Was it in the same shape when you sold?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

That particular TP must not be working right, then. I have a similar problem with my Duesy Mike Campbell. Doesn't sound nearly as good as the one they gave him....

Apart from the signature on the pickgaurd what is different between the Tom Petty model and the 660/12 that I have? They look exactly the same

The certificate! Also, the TP might have slightly nicer body wood but I have seen some killer looking 660/12s also. 8) I used to own one, in fact. 8)

The Tom Pettys had the original 600 series shape, which changed in the mid 90s. Not hugely different but noticeable.
