here's something about pots off the internet ...
250K vs. 500K
Generally, 500K-ohm pots are used with humbuckers and 250Ks are used with single-coil pickups. 25K pots are used for active systems.
You can use any value you like, but a 250K will give a slightly warmer tone than a 500K pot. The 250K pot bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground. A 1Meg-ohm pot will attenuate even less than a 500K pot, so if you want to hear your guitar "wide open" you may want to try one.

$56 is not a major investment to make this guitar way more flexible. IMHO
I was worried they might be a C-note apiece...
Now, is this a mod that a novice can do themselves? I do my own set up, and have a reasonable mechanical aptitude...I also know some decent soldering techniques...so will I be able to do this mod myself when I finally get my 4004 (hoping to have the cash up by the end of the year)?

Jeff R - that's the axe you recently picked up? Sweet!
Jeff U - I use the tones a lot. In fact, since I started to use my 4001 again I've found that the lack of tone control on both PU's annoying on my J-Bass, and the Jazz used to be my main guitar for a LONG time.

eeeehehhhhhhh......
Jeff (S) (too many Jeff's here!
)...Damn, I wish I had cash to toss around on fiddles...especially since I'd have NO PROBLEM with the "other half". But I've committed in my mind to saving up for a new 4004.
How much?

Ted, I am very happy with the mod. And forgive me for not thanking you for your gracious advice on the subject a while back.
That is the beautiful thing about the forum. If you have a question, there is always someone within our "Circle of Knowledge", that knows how to do it, or has done it, or knows someone they can get in touch with that can.
