Yes, I'll definitely keep it original if possible color options were a contingency). A big factor there will be whether the holes for the tuners in the headstock were expanded to accommodate the replacements. Though I'm sure there may be a work-around to an entire re-fin.

I'll get it in Larry Davis' hands in Jan and keep you all posted.

Teeder, I owe you an email! Apologies for being so neglectful.

Larry Davis is reviewing the photos I sent him to see how realistic keeping the finish will be.

One piece I could use some help on - I'm unfamiliar 70-71 4001's, is the pictured tall bridge pup cover period correct? All of my 72's have had low profile covers, though this taller cover matches that found on the '71 4001s Larry is currently finishing-up.

thanks-

No, that is the later version, you should have the shorter, thinner cover.

Hopefully you will not be loosing sleep over this. If you use it, you will not see any difference. If you are like me and the first thing you do when you receive a new Rickenbacker bass is to remove that cover from hell and put it in the case, you will not give a toss.

HERETIC!
And so was created thy sacred hand rest and thus so mounted in thy
mighty surround!
And the people rejoiced and the Angels did so grace them.
And it was good!

Here endeth the lesson, amen.

I've got a pretty decent parts stash - including a low profile cover.

Good thing, as you wouldn't want to be known as a heretic around here, would you?

I find the mute assembly of the bridge/tailpiece much more of a hindrance meself. (More heresy!)
