I was going to say that bass looks familiar. Actually I was just a temporary caretaker in it's life. I like the three-fisted drinking singer....
That set was sponsored by Jack Daniels!

3000 gets an outing. I had this in store for a couple of years and more or less forgot it - turns out to be absolutely magic.

Thanks, Jeffrey!

The backline belongs to the venue; according to their website it's a Fender TB 1200 head and (Fender) 6×10 cab. It sounded great to me; I noted that night that -- at long last -- I had attained that sound, that famous tone.

Okay, here goes - my first Ric. It was May, 1973 and I was playing in a prog rock band in Lexington, KY. We were recording some original material in a studio there, and a friend was along to shoot some photos. We were pretty good for a bunch of guys who wanted to be Yes, and we got rejected by some of the best record company A&R guys in NYC. Anyway, when we formed the band I bought the first 4001 I found (in Fireglo) - some of you might be able to date it for me, but I think it was a '72. It was a sweet bass, and I wish I still had it (and the hair!). This is the best photo I could come up with, taken from a contact sheet the photographer made for me. Excuse the shoes - it was the '70s, after all!

Here's my second Ric - a 4000 in MG. I think it was a '78, but I don't remember for sure when I purchased it. I installed the black pickguard and later added a black TRC with white lettering. I wish I had this one back, too.

Looks to me that you have good guesses on dates. Your Fireglo 4001 would have the full-width inlays (usually sparkly) and "skunk stripe" (shedua) from spring '72 to maybe mid '73. The 4000 from around '78 would have been a set neck with the shedua "skunk" stripe only in the neck (not in the body). Neat!
