Don't Hate Me!!!

but I was desperate to learn a 5-string and I bought a Spector Rebop 5. I gotta admit, it plays nice and it's kinda cool.

Still love my Ric, though.

I've gone through the Spector, Schecter, Ibanez active 5 string thing ... it was cool ... but I gotta have a Ric Growl ... all of my basses are passive these days and most of them are Rics and most of them are 5 stringers ...

It's cool T. To back up my 2 Rick 5 string basses, I have:
2 StingRay5s
TUNE Bassmaniac 5
Gibson Victory Artist fretless that I modded to a 5er
Ibanez QM405tk

Greg Lake has been playing 4 string Tune basses for a long time in concert. Do you notice any of his sound in yours?
If it ain't broke, break it, then fix it.

Trader!
Just kidding T!
After all I just ordered myself a Rob Allen MB2.
Doesn’t mean I love my Ricks any less!
Cheers!

Jack, this is a pic of Greg Lake the night of the last time I saw ELP in concert (Summer of '97). Beacon Theater - NY, NY. Here is using a TUNE Bass here, but unfortunately where I was sitting, I couldn't hear his bass well enough to compare it to the sound of mine. Mine has a sound similar to Stanley Clarke's Alembic Bass sound. I foget what model that is that he has, it'different from mine. Mine has a phenolic fingerboard, I this the one in this pic has an ebony fingerboard.

I didn't take this picture. It looks too good to be one of mine.

We don't have a religious view on Rickenbacker, do we?
I wouldn't choose my 4001 for the regular gig. To me the bridge is the problem. I use palm dampening on some parts of the songs. It is like the instrument is dictating my playing style.

Having said that: the 4001 has the look, the attitude, the sound, the..., you know!!!!!

They are totally different guitars, that's for sure. totally different amp/EQ settings.

well, I'm going to try out my 5-string Spector on about half the songs tonight. Big blow-out NYE gig.

Ric will get his time though.

I just gave up my last "other-than-Rick" bass today in exchange for a 78 azureglo that I have shown in previous posts. I am fully vested as a Rick man again like I used to be.

Lars ... yep the stock ric bridge renders the 4001/4003 unuseable for gigging ... but I modify mine so I can easily palm mute with them ...

I will get some better pics of the rest of my ric basses soon

I still have non-ric basses but none of the Fender, Dillion, SX, Ibanez, Schecter, or others gives me the tone that I am looking for ...

My other basses are interesting diversions ...

Don't worry, my 5-string bass is a Lakland Skyline 55-02. It's a great-playing and sounding bass.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

Lakelands are nice basses ... I was playing a warwick rock bass today ... it was pretty cool ... it was selling used for $329 and then I played a dean 8 string bass ... it had active electronics and a 3 band tone control ... it is the first 8 string bass that I have found that I liked ... I almost bought 2 basses today ...
