I look at the 4004 as evolution from 4001/3, not a follower. How iconic or desirable they are probably won't change until some high profile, influential bassist(s) regularly use them. The 4004LK does not count as far as I'm concerned. It's more like an ornate 4003 with HB1 pickups.

Funny, my customized 2008 Laredo's neck is downright amazing. It is definitely unlike a 4003. It alleviates the common complaint by non-Ric players that the string spacing is narrower than a Fender, as it supports a little more than 19 mm.

My photography of guitars is kinda lousy. Probably best to see some of Jeff's 4004L Rudy photos.
Here are some of mine anyway:

Sorry, I don't recall having any photos of anyone named Rudy. :P

I'm sure you've seen Rudy's face posted in SCARF/So Cal jam event threads before.
Thanks for the comment on the outdoor pics. Coming from the master photographer, that's quite the compliment! :)

I have to say that sometimes I'm not totally convinced that 4004s actually exist. Honestly; I have never seen one (pictures, yes, but ... ), and no one at the dealer here remembers ever selling, or seeing, one, either. So, where are they? I realize that my chances of getting my hands on a lefty 4004 are somewhere between slim and none (and Slim just left town), but honestly, I'd be happy just to actually see and touch a righty. Is the demand for them that small that nobody ever wanted one here? The 4003s seem to move out the door fairly briskly. Now I'm confused, and my headache is back... :?
