Bakelite Pickup Bezels?

Every Breitling watch that I've purchased came with a presentation case made of Bakelite. According to the note in the box, these are produced in France at one of the very last producers of Bakelite goods.



We can assume that THIS Bakelite is not made with asbestos, as was often the case in the past.

Breitling, nice! The most high end watch I own is an American made military auto wind Marathon.

Meh, I own a bunch of wartime made Bakelite items. As long as asbestos is encapsulated, it's a non issue. Very much like a mercury thermometer. A ton of really great products were made with asbestos. It's too bad that asbestos has become the "boogieman". Some things made to replace asbestos just don't perform the same.

Well, maybe that's true and it seems logical to me. However, we once had a customer who related the fact that he was allergic to Bakelite . . . just by TOUCHING it.

Maybe. Either way I wouldn't want a Bakelite or fiberglass toothbrush.
