Another Hal Leonard rep confirmed that it will likely see a second printing. Look for a picture of a couple of us with the book at NAMM in the next few days.

I know I'm late to the party, but I only recently discovered & purchased a copy after getting back into this forum. Not much I can say that hasn't already been said, so... I'll just say thanks Paul, Great job!
I'd love to see the next volume, but I can't think of what could be missing......

Cheers!

Paul, does a second printing mean the exact same book as the first run or does it mean an update or revision or more pictures, etc. are included.

Well, I'm not yet sure how it will be handled. I informed them shortly after the book came out that there are a few errors that needed to be corrected, all my own fault; things like subject missing from a sentence - DOH! - wrong model cited in a caption, misspelling of a band's name (one out of the two mentions), an arrow without a caption in a photo, etc. If they allow only corrections and no additions, it would still be considered a "second printing" I suppose. If I added more content (like, say, photos and information on the new 4003W, or photos of Geddy Lee with Ricks if I should ever actually get them), then I might also add more content with photos, possibly increase the page count, and modify the timeline/family-tree graphic. This, in my mind, would constitute a second edition, and that would also mean mention of that on the cover, updating the copyright date, changing the table of contents and other "legal" things. A second printing would be the easy route and taken if they just figure the book is going to sell out and they need more right away. The second edition would have a longer gestation period as I'll have to redesign the book somewhat with the page-count increase and have to go through the entire book to make necessary changes for continuity (e.g. changing referred page numbers, etc.). So, in short, I don't know what will happen if anything.

From my understanding of these things, a new printing with basic corrections would be termed a "second printing". A book with additional material, whether text or photos, would constitute a "revised edition" or "second edition".

This was the case with Andy Babiuk's fantastic Beatles Gear. The "revised edition" brought some great new photos and added/corrected many things from the original. For awhile at least, he also had a website that served to keep the book material current, although I think much of that ended up in the "revised edition" in the end.

Here is the picture taken at the Hal Leonard Books booth at NAMM, that was posted on the NAMM thread.

Here's yet another reason for there being a Second Edition:

And now if we can get a picture of Geddy playing it on stage, I'll be sure to add a full page to the 4005 chapter! I'll bet you a buck that he found out about your bass by seeing it in the book.

In the "better late than never" category, I finally ordered Paul's book, it arrived yesterday in sunny Guam and I am loving every page of it. I don't play bass or even play at bass, but this is just a great book. I can see it was really a lot of work. Well done Paul. Beautiful volume. I am actually learning something. You can teach old dogs a thing or two!!!

Thanks, Timothy! Glad you like the book. Now you'll have to get a Rick bass to experiment with. Maybe it will be the only Rick bass on Guam (?)!
