1991 Rickenbacker Chris Squire 4001CS #228
Anybody know the story on this bass? I've seen it listed several times on eBay before. Thanks.

That particular bass or the Chris Squire bass in general?

Don't get that. It says sold by madcow, then later not sold by madcow for a higher price, then still later not sold by madcow for an even higher price. And now, madcow is trying to sell it for even more. How many times has madcow sold/not sold this bass?

I wonder what the deal is with this bass. Not one picture of the upper horn.
Is this possibly the bass with actual CHRIS SQUIRE signature on the upper horn?

One picture shooting down the neck from the headstock shows the upper horn. No signature there.

Thanks Paul, I looked TWICE and didn't see one! LOLbassduke49 wrote:One picture shooting down the neck from the headstock shows the upper horn. No signature there.
Just made me wonder if seller was avoiding showing the horn for some reason?

@Rikk, this bass. Like bassduke49 said, it's been sold and resold many times and that madcow is often the one selling it. Would love to have it, but that's a lot of money. Thanks.

I am so damn spoiled!
There was a time when I really wanted a CS with re-issue horsie but after playing a real horsie in "Snow White", nothing else quite compared. I had to get a real one. They do not disappoint!!

Crazy price. Head over to the market place section, and look in the online sightings. There is one on Craigs over in TN at a better price, yet it is a little high also.

Too late! Half the herd is out of the gates!!True horsie instruments do not last very long on the market. I would not consider myself a collector, at least not anywhere near the caliber of Vince Gallo, but I do like the growl of a horseshoe treble pup! At the speed these instruments are snapped up, even at their lofty prices, I'm not alone in that sentiment.

No other pickups sounds anything close like a magnetic horseshoe. The reissue sounds nowhere close to the real deal.
I wish I would have bought a dozen of Lollar horseshoe when it was the time.
Hopefully RIC will finally reissue a real one now that the "market has been cleaned" as mentionned by John Hall.
