4003S JG 8 string on the DudePit
Buy it before someone else does.
There are two problems with the 4003s/8. The string order and the fact that there is only one saddle for the E strings. It is difficult to finger notes on the E and A strings with the small string under the large string. Also the octave E does not intonate well up the neck with the low E. Otherwise, I love my 8. It does have an amazing sound.

Hopefully I close the deal....just waiting on some more pics. I sold the Tuxedo that I had and was actually planning on getting another 4 stringer as a backup....but I always wanted an s8 and with this one being black I was hooked.
I have a rather simple idea (and access to a machinist) for being able to set the intonation individually by modifying the sytock bridge.....if I get I'll give it a shot and pass it on if it is a success....if it is a total failure I'll deny that I ever mentioned it
I'm happy with the price.....but out of curiosity what is the opinion of the masses?
(it won't influence me....just curious)

Still a good price Ted. I had one I picked up off the forum for $1000 and Mike Parks grabbed off of me on Ebay for around $1500. It was a Mapleglo BT job.Yours looks terrific.I was mildly in the hunt as I needed a multi-string but, ended up with a Hamer 12, which I do in fact love to death.

yep ... I have been considering making an 8 string ric for a couple of years ... I think it would have to be a 4003 bass because of their very strong necks ... I would start with a jetglo 4003 4 string bass and remove the tuners and fill the holes and drill 8 new holes something like this ...
then I would have to modify the tailpiece and get some blank saddles and put 2 string grooves in each on ... I would probably put the octave string on top the way most 8 string basses are ...
I played a dean 8 string bass recently and I really liked it ... but it would be even cooler to get a 4003 8 string ... and I like the idea of having a regular size headstock

Brian: I just bought two 8 string sets from Just Strings. They are GHS Boomers that match the original string guages. Some 8 string players assemble their own sets from single strings.
Jeff: Putting the little string on top makes perfect sense to me too. I will probably reverse my setup at some point.
