Double insanity!

1 - insane someone would pay 9k for this

2 - insane the seller wanted more

Perhaps the seller just wanted the exposure, and will work out a deal offline?

Discuss.

Were all the doublenecks bolt-on? I posted a thread elsewhere about my experience of seeing Geddy Lee's doubleneck in person, could have sworn it was a through-neck design just like a standard 4001 bass. The price is in fact insane, but maybe there is no rational limit when it comes to our collective guitar fetish.

They are glued-in AND bolted in.

I have had dealings with the seller. He listed this with high reserve in order to try to sell outside of the bay. This isn't the first time he has done this. My advise is to steer clear of this kind of seller. I agree that this is an insane price for a 4080. While they are beautiful instruments they are not usable for most and valuable only as collector pieces. I owned one for many years (bought it new) and it was rarely used except in studio.

I think while a seller MAY be able to get 6-8 for a minty 4080, one should still be happy to get 5k for one. I had a very nice 4080 FG for a few years and found it quite useful (although heavy). The only thing NOT useful about it was, it wasn't a 12er guitar neck. Most people playing that stuff would prefer a 12 to a 6, wouldn't they? Rush, Genesis, etc.? Oh well... my Rutherford arrives in a couple weeks, so it's neither her nor there for me! :) and yes I made it from two vintage Ricks and it clocked in well under 5K

I can remember back in the '80s when my local music store got a 4080 as a trade and couldn't give the thing away... Interesting how times have changed.

Why would they have glued and bolted the necks? Seems like one or the other would have been sufficient, better yet a through neck design. I had a buddy who had a doubleneck 6/12 SG a la Jimmy Page, good lord that thing was heavy, but it looked cool which the whole point anyway. I still remember him hacking his way through a fractured rendition of Stairway to Heaven at a High school dance with that behemouth . It was awful, but the chicks dug it!
