Welcome, Daniel! Nice 4001! My first Rick (Whitey) looked just like yours when I bought it back in 1982. It's a great bass and I still have it. Enjoy!
If it needs a new nut, I'd recommend finding a good luthier that can make one for it using the original as a template. The new 4003 nuts are little bit (about 1/16") wider and have wider string spacing. You can make them work, but for me the original string spacing is preferable.

Thanks for the tip! I've been trying to find a luthier that has previous experience with Rickenbackers (which in Sweden isn't the easiest thing) but a new nut might be a good start to get to know them. That is a nice one. I'd toyed with getting a white (which ages to yellow) 4001 for sometime. I have bid on a couple of them on ebay in the past, but never got one.
