Question on value of 90's Turquoise 360/6

Post by speakerjones »

Hey all. First post, and I'm hoping you can help guide me a bit. I'm a noob when it come to Rickenbackers. I wandered into a local store last week and the one guitar that called out to me was this Turquoise Metallic 360. I played it for awhile and it just felt and sounded fantastic. Now it was pretty beat up. It looked like it was toured and put away wet nightly. Significant buckle rash, several chips in the binding, some finish flaking away around the neck joint (which will likely get worse unless addressed), and some other Nick's and dings. Rust on the pole pieces and jack plate. No case. I have a crush on this guitar now. It's just a real handsome color on that guitar. I'm pretty flexible on play wear, but I don't want to get taken either. I've always prided myself on being a bargain hunter.

It's on consignment, up at $1200. Now I know that's a silly price, as I've seen some pretty minty JetGlo 360's going for $1400. I'd kind of like to make an offer on it but I really don't know what's fair. How often does this color come up for sale?

They're not that rare. Way less common than JG or FG, etc, but if it's that beat up I wouldn't pay more than maybe $900? Maybe $1000 if you got to have it real bad.

*just went and checked ebay sold items*

Okay, maybe they command more of a premium than I realized. I never would have guessed $2K for even a minty TUR 360/12.

$1200 sounds like a great price for a cool guitar in a cool color! I don't mind wear, though.

I don't really mind wear either, but this borders on abuse. :)
I think I might offer $850 or 900 and see where it goes. Hopefully I don't offend the guy.
What about a case? Are Rics picky about the cases they fit into? The 360 strikes me as that kind of guitar.
