You're certainly welcome to your opinion, but I completely disagree about the Tele. I don't like a Tele into an AC-30 at all. with a Tele, I'd take a tweed or even blackface Fender over a Vox AC any day. Warms 'em up a little.

Cool. The Fender amps do warm up guitars, no doubt. I like that sound, too, but with the Vox/Tele combo I'm not looking for warmth. Just grit. Tele into a Vox gets me a real great raunchy sound. Very gritty. Harsh rock.

Fair enough. "Harsh" is a good description, and if that's what your going for, rock on and enjoy.

Hello All

I think the majority opinion is the deluxe reverb or the princeton, they are both available in the UK so I will be able to try them out.
As I said in a previous thread if I do buy a Tele then i will have a Vox Night Train, Princeton/Deluxe Reverb, Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom and Ricky 620/6 add a Tele to that collection then I think I will have the versatility to play just about anything.
I have been playing for about one and a half years from scratch and have made good progress, or at least my tutor says that .
The aim is to be able to play Rock, Blues, Indie and Pop so I think I have the right gear, just need to practice more.

I have a Rick 360 6 String & 360 12 String guitars. I have a RI 65 Deluxe Reverb, Twin & a Vox AC15CC1X w/Blue. I also have an original Janglebox.

To my ears the Ricks sound best thru the Vox Amp. the Blue spkr. I think is a big part of the sound. I've played non Blue Vox Amps & they just don't get the sound for me. When I play the Ricks, especially the 12 String, I use the Janglebox.

Love the Fender's on just about everything else though. Fender Strat, Tele, Gibson LP's, J160E, Epi Casino's, Gretsch, Martin 6 & 12 Str. Acoustics & my Phantom Teardrop.

It would take a little research, but that line may be Blackface circuits "dressed" as Silverface.

I know the 68 and some 69 Bassman amps (any with that chrome ring around the grill cloth) were the BF circuit. (I have a 68). They updated the look, but hadn't yet changed the circuit. Not sure if that holds for all the amps from 68 or for the reissue line, but it might.

Princeton Reverb Amps were BF circuits up to the late '70s. They escaped CBS's tinkering with success, luckily. The RIs are most likely different, though.

Not sure about having the same circuit as the blackface. It is possible. The mods on this amp include Channel 1--Bassman circuit, and both channels have access to reverb and trem.

Loved my tweed Blues Junior. $300, looked killer, lush reverb. No headroom live/over a drummer, though.

+ 1 ! Good and loud little amp. Good for small venues. You can mike it up for bigger locations. I use my Bassman reissue for bigger gigs, clean and a good headroom.

I have an AC15C1 with a real Alnico Blue speaker, and it sounds just fine with both my Rick 12's. Would you recommend replacing the stock Chinese tubes or is this unnecessary?

I have a Fender brown Bandmaster with 3 10" Jensens.
It sounds crystal clear and does not have any mods....I bought it new in 60'.
I replaced all the tone caps and I like JJ tubes.

I replaced the output tube sockets to ceramic but other than re-coning the speakers at Orange County Speaker....it sounds great....noiseless....no mods.
One thing I did do though......over the years I noticed some rattling/resonance on certain notes.
I finally got in there and connected a tone generator to one of the inputs and swept the frequency looking for resonant rattles and buzzes.
The main problem was with the screen tacked under the top of the amp to help block hum pickup.
This screen was rattling away like crazy....so I got my staple gun and fixed it all up....made a BIG improvement.

I also have a Magnatone 260VV with the wild stereo true vibrato.
It belonged to a friend of mine and we both used it gigging in the late 50's in Tulsa. He also has a 59' 365 that he bought with this Magnatone amp back in 59'.
It got pretty heavy after all these years so I bought a couple of years ago it and went completely through it and OMG.....what a sound.
It has a different tone than the Fender but very nice and sweet....that vibrato is a definite one trick pony.....but what a trick....
Not many of these are around....and the guys that have them don't want anyone to know about it.

I use my MG 60' 360 with both of these amps and they are great!

If you want a Fender amp, I'd recommend with either a '65 Deluxe Reverb or their newer ’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. For many years I had a '70s Silver Face Deluxe Reverb and all of my Rics sounded great with it. However, sadly I let it go to an attorney friend of mine who had been pressuring me for years to let him buy it. I received cash and needed legal advice in return.
