I Tried Zymol To Wax The Ric

Post by Tommy »

Lots of "what wax to use" threads regarding Rics. I went with the Ric recommended Turtle Wax auto wax with a 50/50 water mix. Yeah, it was nice, but didn't make me super happy. I always kept seeing guys recommending the Zymol wax cleaner that can be purchased at an auto parts store. So I relented and gave that a go instead of the Turtle Wax. Must say very impressed. It got rid of a slight white-ish haze that was present on the guitar and it deepened the black. Easy to use, shined up the metal hardware, even smells nice. But above all it put a nice shine on the guitar.

Hope to take some better photos, but for now you'll have to take my word for it, the Zymol is pretty good on a Rickenbacker. Also did my car with it and "Wow!" The stuff is good.

It was nice to see at NAMM that the Zymol guys have figured this out too and are starting to market products specifically for guitars...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

What's the deal with Zymol, anyway? Is it a finer compound than Turtle Wax? Also, how does it smell? I love the smell of turtle wax...

It smell like you are in the tropics. Nice results too!
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

We have a dark micro pebbly looking bathroom sink with chrome flecks and I use Zymol on it. In the nightlight at night it looks like stars twinkling in the sky.

The "deal" with Zymol is that it's water based and so, will build up coats. Turtle Wax is solvent based and tends to strip off previous coats...

Zymol smells like a Miss Hawaiian Tropic bikini contest in your guitar case. Nothing smells better!

OK, so I searched several of the forums and didn't find it. What's the 'magic' of ORGANIC?

Not exactly sure ... I think Paul W would be the guy to expound on that.

Organic really was meant to be 100% cotton, no polyester.

Makes sense. Thanks. The only other thing I could think of was that 'normal' diapers might use a finish-damaging chemical in processing which want present in "organics". Given the primary use for diapers, I thought that would seem odd... :D
