Hi George thanks for posting this..I have a 2011 4003 Jetglo and thinking to add a 4003w..To my ears there is or appears to be a very slight difference in sound. Both basses are absolutely georgous...Again thanks for posting this. :)

very nice posting! It almost seems the differences could be due to newer strings on the Walnut?

Both sound great. Just for fun, what is your amp set up? Almost looked like a Hartke head? If so, which model and did you have compression on etc?

Now you just need to add one of them plum glows to the fleet!

William the basses went through a tech 21 VT rack into a Hartke ha5500 with trace elliot 4x10 redline 500w cab and a mesa boogie custom 1x10x2x6 and hf driver cab also 500w, with slight drive, no compression at all, and there is only weeks between the strings, i find Elixirs don't change much if at all in tone as they age. that is why i use them, they are expensive but worth the cost, i put them on and forget about them. cheers guys

To answer your question, George, I do find it most interesting. The tone is very close at least through my speakers. Both great basses!

George - thanks for that info. They both sound great, and I would give the W a slight nudge to the head of the line, but again…only a slight nudge.

I'll probably bite the bullet sometime and try the Elixirs, but sadly I don't play enough to go swapping out too often.
