"cheater" toasters....

Post by fluffy »

I LOVE the look of toaster pick-ups..... there's the dilemma: the Mrs brought home some silver duck tape (brand name, hence the spelling) and I have been VERY tempted to snip off a couple little strips and "toaster-fy" the pickups on my 650C.. Am I insane??? has anyone else here ever cheated to get the look of toasters?!?!?!?! fess up .. we won't judge

not sure if serious

If serious, this would be a mess. The goo would get all over everywhere. I put black electrical tape over some bat wing inlays on a very cheap doubleneck I was using and it was all I could do to keep the corners down. I can only imagine tape under a right-hand-action area like the pickups would quickly become a hot mess.

I believe there are several threads about Toaster covers installations on High Gains and HB1s
Using duck tape sounds like a quacky idea to me .... :?

I guess I'm a little confused about why it would be bad .... I mean there was a sticker on my pickups when I bought the guitar....

I didn't like the residue from that, either. I agree with Jason, it would be a sticky mess. But some like that...

Personally I like the idea of putting a toaster cover over the PUP.

I did the toaster cover mod over my high gains and it came out great it took me about 8hrs but it was worth it.

You're just talking about one strip of thin, shiny silver tape across the center each one of the humbuckers, yes? I see no real reason why it wouldn't work and from a fairly short distance away would appear to be toasters. Try it on one and see how it works and report back or sends us a photo. It's not much tape at all.

What can happen???

eh, I've held off on the idea of any "drastic modification" as I'm wrestling with the idea of selling it ... unless anybody has a Les Paul they'd want to swap for it. I'm really pining for a LP and the only way I see that happening is selling or swapping my 650C cos it sure ain't gonna be my 360/12 or my 4003!! is such a thought sacrilege? am I going to get cyber- stoned to death now?!?!? :? :? :?
