Ed Gagliardi has passed away.....

Post by leftybass »

Ed Gagliardi was the original bassist in Foreigner; it was reported by his daughter Nicole thru his Facebook fan page that he has passed away from cancer, 11 May 2014.....he had been fighting the disease for about 8 years. I was hoping to share some questions with him about his 60's 4001 LH which he still owned, but his illness got the better of him before we could make it happen.. RIP Ed.

Great player with the best non-clank 4001 tone IMO. RIP Ed. :(

The FIRST LH Rickenbacker bass I ever saw was in a Foreigner poster WAY back in the day.
It was Ed's and I remember being blown away by the color (FG).

LOVE his tone on the tune "Star Rider" R.I.P. Ed

Thanks for the mention of "Star Rider." I just gave it a listen on youtube, and agree that it's a great tone. Sounds like a standard "clean" (no effects) 4001 with a pick - that's it (maybe some bass boost). I like the bass line a lot. I bought "Double Vision" when I was in high school in the late 70's, but this one sounds like it was from earlier in their career.

"Star Rider" is on their first album.

I thought I'd go ahead post the Youtube link (the sound is nice out of my old JBL PC speakers):
