When you actually think about it, a '68 with an original hi-gain and a '69 with an original horseshoe are about as rare as you can get from this period.

Um, Ron who? Don't think so. I think the '67 I show in the spread on pp. 30-31 is Tony Matura's. But ownerships change over the years, and that's why I attribute many of the photos to the contributors and photographers, not necessarily the owners.

Thanks, Robert. There are several "Ron's," so I didn't know who you were referring to. I did use plenty of shots from Ron O'Keefe though; let's say he was "instrumental" in the successful illustration of some of the rarer models and colors!

Always loved the S basses, a players instrument, nice round edges to the front, neck feels more solid without inserts, simple on output, the gigging version of the 4003 !

I agree. I love the look of all the goodies on the old deluxe 4001's, but given the choice, I'd be playing an "S".

I'd be looking for one of these, but at the price GC is charging for them, I will try to find a 4001v63, to replace the two I was forced so sell back in 2008
In the meantime, I'm looking at a 4003 MG....
