3001 Pickup Problem

I have a Rickenbacker 3001 Bass and a problem with the original Pickup. It has a very low output, but reads about 22 kOhms?! Very strange.



My Guitar tech has no experience with this kind of Pickup and he is unsure how the plastic cover can be removed. So my question, can the plastic cover be removed? I found a 3001 in the register with no cover on the pickup so I guess it must be removable...

From the reading I'd say it was a good winding. I'd look elsewhere for the problem.
