I definitely second the Schaller. As for the plastic or no, I could go either way.

The route is already cut for the RIC tailpiece but the Schaller would have been very nice to see.

Then you would just have a bound 4004 with shark inlays - not as cool :?:

Woody, I was just going to say the exact same thing!

Hey everyone,

Definitely enjoying reading the feedback and glad to see everyone is still interested in seeing how this comes out. After the bass was painted I went home and thought about the color and came to the conclusion that I wasn't happy with the almost banana cream color that it came out as. There must have been some miscommunication in the paint department and the wrong color got sprayed on it and rather then settle for it Ive decided to have it repainted. It will be a set back but ultimately i know I'll be much happier when it is sprayed a nice off white color like I had originally planned. Good news is it should be re painted today so I'll hopefully have some update pictures posted before i leave the office.

But....doesn't White ultimately fade into a "Banana Cream" color anyway???
I had a White Precision that did that, AND, I've seen White 4001's do the same.....

This was waaaaaaay past a normal yellowing and once the final coat would have been applied it would have gotten darker. It was a nice color but just not for me :? Thanks Jason for handling the answer to the yellowing too! This instrument will stay the same color that it gets sprayed so I just wanted to make sure it was the right shade that I had pictured in my head.

It was able to get resprayed today and I couldn't be happier with how it came out, a wonderful off white color. My phone camera is garbage but you can at least get an idea of the color from the pictures. Tomorrow we should see how the binding contrasts with the body color and it should start getting some of the sanding to prep if for the final coat too. I should have the finished product right after the factory reopens from the summer vacation. I'll be sure to post more progress pics tomorrow!

Not if the pickups are in 4002 positions. Anyway, I like the idea of a bound 4004 w/ different pickup positions a lot. 8) Give me pearlescent dots like a 4003FL though.

So about that custom shop...

Back from vacation and I'm very happy to say there has been more progress on my bass. The binding has been scraped and the final coats have been applied. Tomorrow it will get the final sands done to it, get fret leveled and go through buffing. Once it has been buffed the hardware will be put on and the bass will be setup and ready to go! I cant wait at this point ha ha ha. The bass was sitting behind a Ruby when this picture was taken so there's a little bit of a red reflection showing. The color on it is amazing and when it is finished i will be sure to take a picture of it with a proper camera so you can all get at least an idea of how nice this has been coming out so far. Fingers crossed that I'll have the finished product tomorrow! :D
