I picked up a NOS 30-year-old Magnetizer.....Owner manual says it put out "a peak minimum (at half cycle)" of 100 amps on the coil current, with " at least 7 kilogauss peak" magnetic field.
Anyone know if that should be sufficient to remagnetize old horshoe halves?
You remagnetize them opposite to each other yes? So, one bottom half would be North and the other bottom half woudl be South?

When installed the shoes orientation is such that they will repel each other but don't let them touch, when two like poles touch they will weaken the magnet. If you ever remove them for storage, flip one over and allow them to connect North to South (i.e. top of one to bottom of other) so that they act as "keepers".

Thanks for the replies....
I've dug up info on the arc welder method....you can also use a large, commercial battery charger.
Basically, you make two large coils of wire, one for each leg of the horseshoe.....oriented for opposite polarities, one on each leg of the horseshoe...wired together at the top end. You also place a keeper bar across the open end of the horseshoe. The two other ends of the coils each get hooked to the Positive and Negative power leads of the Arc Welder or Battery Charger........BUT, the big key to doing this is you MUST wire in a momentary switch to trigger the power!!!
If you simply turn on the regular "ON" switch, instead of using a brief momentary switch, the whole thing does not magnetize right.
