On the new FB 4001 page someone posted a 68 BG 4001 that they got off Craigslist. Cool looking bass.

Well, if RIC ever makes a v68, they have to offer a BG fin option, with ambered binding and inlays.

1st generation burgundy-glo has to be my favorite Rickenbacker finish. I agree with Ilan, if there ever is to be a V68, I hope they resurrect this finish as an option. That deep eggplant color is to die for.

Brian & Scott,

Yup, I posted her here, she's mine! :D

She's out getting new frets and a leveling. the guys at The Twelfth Fret in Portland Oregon are taking great care of her. I have to give them a shout out. They are seriously talented luthiers!!

Scott,

I agree. My first vintage Rickenbacker was a 1973 4001 that I purchased from it's owner in the UK. She had been refinished a wonderful Autumnglo but the control cavity still had her original translucent Burgundyglo finish. I was smitten! :D

This 1968 has a wonderful finish on her. It was buried under a ton of grime. All it needed was a slight power buffing with Swirl-X and a coat or two of Zymol to bring out that wonderful translucent Burgundy color!! I love the spray lines in it that give her a tiger striped look. Yes, the finish has lightened somewhat, since the finish is a bit deeper under the guard but she is outstanding for being nearly 46 years old.

Woody,

I highly recommend them!! Yes, I shipped my bass across the country but these are the guys that worked their magic with my 1965 4001. Mark Walker turned me on to these guys!

Reading this thread answered a question I had for a while. I have a `75 4001 BG and finish is much closer to fireman red than eggplant. Was a there a specific year when a color change was made ?

Rich,

Are you sure it's classified as Burgundyglo? Is that was is indicated in the control cavity?? Burgundy ranged from a light translucent to a deep purple almost black. You may have a red instrument.

The only "reds" in 1975 were Fireglo (a red burst - lighter in the middle, darker on the edges) and Burgundy. Burgundy varied widely from the famous "Eggplantglo" of the 1970-72 period, to a rich burgundy, to a cherry red. If your bass is red and not a burst, it is Burgundy.

Thanks for feedback ! I will post pics as soon as it's back from repair shop. I can confirm it`s not Fireglo, it's fully red. I will check control cavity, which I haven`t looked at in a long time to see if color coding is there.

Then, it's Burgundy. Welcome aboard Rich!

As promised, here's OG 4048 from July 1975. Not a professional shot, but reflects current color after 39 years.
