Looks like the HS has a reprieve as the thread lock seems to have done the trick. Funny thing is the whole bass plays, or feels a lot more solid now.

Quite glad as replacements seem a bit thin on the ground!

Thanks also to John for his offer! :D

I've had Hipshot replacement alu and brass versions and both had serious screws and wobbling issues. I play hard with a pick, but I'm positive I can require 100% reliability from a $130 piece of metal.

Now I have Badass II and it's good, but as guys above said, you'll probably need to cover filled cavity. Of course you don't have to, but you have to choose a good tech. I didn't chose well and now it looks really bad (anyway I don't care and don't use any cover):

I've used normal Hipshot bridges (not the Ric one, and not on Rics) and have never had a problem with them, but I do play lightly. I don't know if the Ric one is worse. The Badass was never a great option for me because I tend to rest my hand on the bridge and I find the BA uncomfortable.

I just wish they'd make a proper aluminium reissue bridge but with more rearward intonation adjustment (broader bridge unit?) and tighter tolerances.

I got really tired of dealing with the hipshot bridge. I change action hight a lot depending on mood. I recently found a 5string Ric tailpiece & used a 4string bridge on it. It has no teeth above the mute. I replaced the mute adjustment screws with phillips head. It's not a perfect solution but it eliminates the hipshot problems.

Once I've got the action as low as it'll go, that's where it stays.
