Never seen a Rick bass with a zero fret, backwards headstock, and the "square" neck heel. The bottom horn looks really rounded too, no "hook" to it. Did Rick ever offer a flat black finish, or is this just a slightly modded refin?

Yep. I'd say its real. they made the C64 and a version C64S I believe, that mimicked Paul Mcartney's bass. This is the latter version with the sanded down cut-away like Pauls. they also put out a few in the satin jetglo your seeing here.

Love the finish!! Hate the sanded upper horn, sorry MACCA! What;' up with that TRC?? Looks like a 7 year old made it out of cardboard!!

Ah, yes, the "rare" matte black C64S! Funny, they only made a few, and there is always 1 or 2 available for sale somewhere.

While I don't doubt the rarity, apparently the collectability leaves much to be desired.

"Rare" means there are 1 or 2 available for sale. EVERY TEN YEARS!
