4001S

Post by VRICKY63 »

I saw a brand new 4001S at Guitar Center. Shocking! Too bad the neck is so wide. Is this a special Guitar Center only edition?

Most likely. The neck should be like all Ricks nowadays. Sure it's "wide"?

I saw this too in NYC. Beautiful bass. A GC special. Price was kind if high. Pretty much a v63. All the new Rick's have wide necks now. I'm finally used to mine. Had to have the action lowered too.

Interesting, the most recent Ric basses i've played (ruby 4003,4003w,and 2 recent Cii's) all felt like the neck profiles were thinner side to side, and with more of a rounded C shape, than either of my 2004 4004's,which were wider and more shallow.

It looked like the standard 1 11/16". I think an S model should be 1 5/8".

That is why the demise of music stores in favor of online buying sucks. Unless you are right by a music store with Ricks, you are taking a big risk.

Meh. I bought 3 of my 4 current Rick basses over the internet, satisfaction guaranteed or money back. That's a risk i can live with. (And i have been very satisfied,as i still have them!)

I agree. I live in a pretty rural area, and don't have the luxury of big guitar stores with big inventories. the key here is do your research, and make sure you are buying what is being described. I've never been ripped off.

most of the big stores will ship to you... and I have been offered to be able to return if I'm not happy with the item.

Sure, but having to order one online, unpack, try it, pack it up and ship it back if it doesn't speak to you and repeat the process is a lot more hassle than having a few to try out and compare on the spot.

I've done both, purchase from big box stores via mail as well as purchase in store. I've actually been quite lucky with the on line purchase thing but nothing compares to the Eureka moment you get when that instrument you have in your hands sings to you and you know you are walking out of the store with her!!

It's like picking up the hottest chick in the club and walking out the front door with her!
