If you bring it directly to check through, I would highly recommend a sturdier case.

It may be a bit late to the game in this thread, but some might be interested in this info...

I'm going to try the gate check method Thursday. Not expecting this will be a problem.

Here's what I did. Flew from O'Hare to Columbia SC on Thursday to have brand practice. Flew with my 620 in the ABS case. Wrapped a couple loops of packing tape around the case to hold it securely. Checked it at the desk. Flew down on a United EMB 145. Watched the case slide down the chute onto the baggage carousel in Columbia. No problems, not a scratch.

Attempted to fly back to O'Hare Sunday. Attempt foiled by a guy unhappy he was transferred to Hawaii (Hawaii!). Instead, returned Monday through Dulles. Same check in. Late flight arrival in Dulles. I made the connection but my bags did not. United delivered my guitar and suitcase to my house today and put them safely on the back porch. Not a scratch.

I flew with almost all my Ricks and never had a problem (touch wood).
I managed to bring along everything from a 365 to a 4005(!).
They all came with me to the cabin. I never check them and I do my best to avoid even gate checking (worked fine up until now).
So long and thanks for all the fish!
