The Searchers and The Seekers
Back in the 70's, when both of their records were scarce in the US, I would buy a record by The Seekers thinking they were The Searchers and vice versa, and ended up becoming a fan of both groups (and by extension from the Seekers--The Settlers and The Silkie as well). Lead singer Judith Durham of the co-ed Seekers once remarked that in the 60's, they often had only one dressing room to share because the management had them confused with The Searchers! Are there any other Searchers/Seekers fans out there?
I'll always remember the nice acoustic 12 string on "I'll Never Find Another You."
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Hello Paul,
The confusion between The Searchers and Seekers continues. Two years ago at Basingstoke John McNally asked me if I had heard whether Mike was retiring because a number of fans had expressed their regret at The Searchers retiring, and John knew it wasn't his group. The strange thing was that the last ever concert by "The Searchers" was to be in Dublin?? Lovely city, but why not somewhere where the fans could get to easily?
You guessed it - it was The Seekers!

Gary: Quite the story. I cannot see how there could be confusion between the Seekers and The Searchers. With the exception of a couple of folk tunes by The Searchers, the music of these two groups is very different.

If you are not a fan of either group, then it might be quite easy to confuse the name. After the incident reported by Gary Jackson, Beryl Kirkham (a member of The Searchers Appreciation Society) composed the following poem.
It really is beyond me
How you can compare
The Seekers to The Searchers
I can't believe you dare
To seek is to look for
By the dictionary I am taught.
Search is to examine closely,
Now there's a wishful thought
The Seekers have a 'K',
For kudos I concede.
But for talent and charisma
The Searchers take the lead
While The Searchers have an 'H',
For halos brightly shining,
A sign of their brilliance,
You are quietly undermining
The Seekers, I suppose,
Can be described as 'rather nice'.
Whereas The Searchers
Are full of sugar and spice
So, if you do your homework,
I know it won't be long.
Before you put The Searchers,
On the pedestal where they belong.
It really is beyond me

The Searchers are the best!
Very Good ditty, but frankly it is beyond me how anyone could confuse the groups, I would go as far as to say that fans of seekers would not be fans of searchers and vice versa.
I also think John may have been guilty of being mischievous!, believe I am certain if MP was calling it a day, one of the first to know would be John
