Post by rickomania1970 »

i'll buy a new comp but i want to ask to rickobros and rickomasters before the action :) i thought the FEA comp but i can't find -and nearly impossible to find- so the new list is here :Joe Meek FloorQ, Earthquacker Devices The Warden,Diamond Pcb1,OKKO Coca Comp,Wampler Ego,Origin Cali76 std (my first choise but pricey :( ),Cmatmods Deluxe Signa,Suhr Koji,Fairfield The Accountant,Demeter Compulator PRO and MXR M87.i don't use too big sized and weird voltage (reverse polarity or more than 9v) tube (or fet or optical) comps.i'll using it with my Darkglass B7K dist/pre and 4003 mostly,4003s and 4003s/5 sometimes.i am waiting all opinions and maybe offers

Sorry Babur. I don't have any experience with compression except that which might be built into my pedals.

I take it you are wanting a pedal format compressor, right?

I had a original version (orange case) Aphex Punch Factory that was a great transparent compressor, if that is your thing. I understand the MXR compressors are excellent pedals.

Here a link to compressor pedal reviews.
Just the opinion of one guy, but you might find some useful info.
He doesn't really like most of them. He seems to like the Markbass Compressore pedal best overall. He also likes the Pigtronix Philosopher and Whirwind OC Bass. These all run on 18V instead the usual 9V of most pedals.

I have the Origin Cali 76 Limiting Amplifier('transformer' version). Its a winner. The FEA gets hi marks too. You may also wish to look at the new Keeley 'Bassist'. Big thread on that one at TalkBass as well.

Good luck...

I used to run a couple of Aphex 661 Expressors but those are rack mount units. The only other comps I have used much were the ones on the 12x4 Ward-Beck console at the old studio I worked at; it was similar to this one, the only photos I have are on 35mm b&w film and I do not have scans of any of those.

The only one I've ever owned and liked is a Rane DC24. 'Course, it's a rack mount unit and not made anymore...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

thx for all comments :) i'll buy origin cali76 (or one of FEA models) later.now i tried and loved (and bought) Suhr Koji Comp.it is very effective on my new 4003S and good to distorsion sound of my 4003 ;) no loss higs and lows with a creamy comp tone.very lovely limiting at high levels.i think that rickomasters will love it.
