4003 black hardware

Post by squanto1 »

I have a 2002 4003 JG and would like to put all black hardware on it. I have already ordered the pick guard, and I know I can put a black HipShot bridge on it.

I was wondering where I could get a black bridge pickup mount to replace the chrome. I already have removed the pickup cover and installed a black bezel, but thought it might look cool with the black pickup mount as well.

I've already looked at all the most commonly recommended sites (POTR, AllParts ...).

Any ideas out there?

Get chrome hardware and have it powder-coated.

Instead of just looking at Pick of the Ricks: send an e-mail or call.

A few years ago I was looking for OEM black parts, and called Chris; he said that he had certain parts (tailpiece, pickup cover, bezel, etc.) available in black for an additional charge. Granted: this was 2012, so availability may have changed, but it's definitely worth a phone call or an e-mail to find out.

There is a butchered 1989 Red 4003 on Ebay right now. All the black parts are still available as of this morning.

Hello, do you mean like that ?
It's based on a 85 4003 body bought on Ebay last year. For the chrome bezel I had one as spare part, just sanded the chrome and painted...I'm not sure it will last a long time but looks cool at the moment...
The truss rod cover is home made : from an original logo scanned and printed, under a plexi cover.
More details if requested. It's looks cool but I'm not impressed by the sound after a so long job...

I know Chris at PotR has had black tail pieces and related items from to time. If you want new, try him first. When I wanted to replace the badly lifted tailpiece on my Blackstar, I purchased a new tailpiece and did what Ilan suggested. My powdercoater did a great job and it looked killer. Personally, I would not paint it. The surround on my Blackstar was painted and it looked like crud, compared to the powdercoat.

Hello, I agree that powder coating would be the best solution. But spray paint give a really good looking result and all the metallic parts have the same look on the bass.
The only problem is that for some months I play with a metallic picks (dava master control) that is quite aggresive for paint, strings and Pups...!

I've always thought getting a black chrome plating would be the best, but that's just me...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
