Maple Glo 4003, '09 vs.'14

Post by 59jazz »

I'm new to the Ric family and am considering a clean 2009 4003 Maple Glo. I have also talked with the guys at Wildwood Guitars and discovered that for $300 more, I can get a new one shipped. Are there any structural or quality control differences between the 2009 and 2014 models? If they're the same, I'd most likely go with the '09 because after 4-5 years of use, it seems to be a very sound instrument with minimal scratches and wear.
Thanks for your input!

It's difficult to pass up a brand new 2014 4003 with a warranty through Wildwood, POTR or Dave's. Just sayin'....

I'm not sure what year RIC went to the new two piece necks and full width inlays, but if it was 2009 I'd go for the used one. If it was 2010, I'd go for the new one.

2008 for the FWI
2011 for the 2-piece neck
IIRC

My 2010 4003 has a 2-piece neck, and my former 2010 4004 did as well, so they had the stronger necks. The MID paint on them was another matter entirely...

The seller of the '09 sent me the ser #....it's manufactured date is the 50th week of '09, so it does have the 2 piece neck. Think I'm leaning towards the '09.

I wondered when the 2 piece necks were phased in. Good to know, I'd go with the new one.
