Re: string gauge on new 4003
i just put a set of the Curt Mangan strings in the RIC gauges (from POTR) on my new 4003. Think I am going to go with the factory recommended gauge. They do seem to have a nice zing to them.

My 4001 is just a happier bass with the recommended gauges.Searay wrote:i just put a set of the Curt Mangan strings in the RIC gauges (from POTR) on my new 4003. Think I am going to go with the factory recommended gauge. They do seem to have a nice zing to them.

Always been 45-105. Elixirs work very well on Rics i use nothing else now.

So far I've only used rotosounds, but I'm gonna give those d'addarios a try soon!
Re: string gauge on new 4003
One more thing about the D'Addario's.....I started using them pretty much exclusively since the mid 80's,, and honestly, I've never had a bad string.

I love the Rickenbacker nickel roundwound strings with their 45, 55, 75, 105 gauges. But because the Rickenbacker strings are quite expensive here in the UK I currently have D'Addario XL nickel roundwound strings bought as single strings to match the Rickenbacker gauges. They are fine strings too and fairly versatile.
