More so, those one who complain all the time about the binding rubbing against their arms (Poor posture? Playing technique? Just something/anything to complain about? ). But those folks usually hang out at TB, IIRC.
I would be one of "those folks". After recently keeping a '75 4001 for a friend for a few weeks,it reinforced my general dislike of the binding as anything other than decoration. And at this point, after playing bass for the better part of 3-4 decades,i don't think my posture, etc is going to change anytime soon.....so i am thankful for 4004 and S model Ricks.
I think I'm the only guy in the world who actually finds the binding more comfortable! Weird......

I don't mind the binding, really, especially when it is CB! :D Both of my Martin Keith 5 string basses have binding on the front edge only of the bodies, same with my Rick Turner bass.

The S body, though provides the look of the RM basses which is particularly nice given those who helped make them famous. 8)

I had to sell my 4004 because I found the unbound body really painful!

Pick of the Ricks has them available for pre-order at $1495. That may not be 'budget', but it's certainly not unreasonable. Heck, I haven't been a bass player for 20 years, and I'm seriously tempted.

I am very happy to see this, since I stupidly sold my 4001v63 MG in 2008, I've been set on getting one like it again. Now I may just have to go with one of these! Or maybe two, one in MG one in FG!!!
Thanks Rickenbacker! :D

I don't get it. Why is everyone so excited about these? They are just a cheaper version of the regular 4003 and 4003W with no binding, triangular inlays and MONO only output. I would have preferred the toaster and horseshoe pickups to get the vintage tone. What am I missing?

I'd like see a review of the neck. If it's on the slimmer side, at that price I'm in for a jetglo
