4003 FG w/mods

Post by NFB-418 »

I purchased this beauty in June 2014 and I've finally gotten around to taking pics to reflect the mods I've done.

Here's what she's got now:

Bone nut
Toaster
RIHS
Vintage-Style Knobs
Knurled Strap Bolts

With the excellent set up (strung with Fender 9050L flats), it looks and plays like a dream!

Looks great! 8)

Do you plan on getting a '60s vintage style pickguard to complete the look?

I used 9050 ML's on my 4001 for a long time - loved the sound. :D

Nice work!

Are the vintage '60s style trussrod cover/nameplates still available from Rickenbacker?
I remember that you used to have to trade in your old one in order to get a new one, but can I trade the raised-letter type for a flat '60s style cover?

NFB, that bass is gorgeous! Love me some Fireglo! :D

Last time I checked with RIC, they only exchange old TRC's for new ones of the same type.

That's right. They discontinued the policy of being able to swap the TRC for different type quite a while ago.

And yet another valuable customer service is discontinued by RIC.

The horseshoe looks good, but the toaster looks a bit odd with the larger spacing and the double hump pickguard. The vintage knobs don't really jive with the bound body and neck inlays. Looks good, some things just look a bit out of place.

I jive just fine with vintage knobs on my bound body 4001! To me, they jibe quite well.
