After playing my newly acquired 4003s8 at a gig on Saturday I had a few decent blisters on my picking hand (not a normal thing for me so I attribute it to the octave strings on the s8). Several coats of Superglue only helped me through about a song and a half at my House of Blues gig on Monday. Surprisingly I still played great and the show went well enough for us to be asked back as semi-regulars. I guess my dedication won't come under scrutiny any longer
I've seen this happen on Musicman basses before, due to the sharp edges on the polepieces before they started to make them with rounded over edges....havn't seen such a bloodbath occur on a Ric though..
Nu-Skin, Brian, got me thru a few gigs as a guitarist when those skinny strings made their way thru my callouses and cut my fingertips. I recommend cleaning off the Ric, then keep the hand elevated for a few days while learning the proper pick technique.
"They make great f***'n basses". - Lemmy, NAMM 2009
I've used Nu Skin before and it seemed much more fragile and flaked off too easily. I was hoping that since the blister wasn't opened that the superglue would be tough enough to hold things together. Apparently not.
seriously ... I believe a good bassist should become versatile and learn many ways to play his bass ... picks, thumbs, fingers, whacking, plucking, slapping, ... what ever it takes ...
