Where'd you see that Dane? I was looking for references to when it would be starting, but all I saw was a reference John Hall made to an order for England....

Re: The 4003S is back!!!
I wonder how much time not doing binding, triangle inlays and a more complicated harness saves RIC when building each instrument. I imagine it adds up to a lot of hours each week.
These look lovely, especially the Walnut model. I've wanted a 4003S for some time! Now I just need a good reason to buy one since I'm pretty much at bass capacity, and my wife loves the way binding looks.
Make it in an FL model and I will have no way to say no. I can put up with the huge treble pickup, bridge and tailpiece. Can't get too greedy.

Re: The 4003S is back!!!
Apple Music sold their advance issue (Namm bass?) 4003Sw this past week.....not to me,unfortunately! I really like the look of it,but i know i would have ended up investing far too much in aftermarket customising had i bought it. I think I am probably saturated,or is the word satiated with my 4 Rick basses. GAS free at last?

Woody, I've always believed that an even half dozen was a good number when it came to Rick basses. I myself am doing all I can to get back up to that level!

I'd be very interested in a correct vintage style guard for my 4003S.aceonbass wrote:The one thing you cant get from RIC is a vintage style guard that fits the current mounting hole locations. I just finished this acrylic pattern for a vintage style guard that will fit 1997-up 4003's as well as the new S model. This pattern can be adjusted for either neck pickup spacing, or rear flange length and upper screw hole location. I tried to post a pic, but couldn't resize it small enough to fit here.cassius987 wrote:I'm super grateful they're "just" doing the modernized 4003S "for the rest of us". Like Dane said, it's not like there's any real difficulty to making the 4003S into whatever vintage appointed Paul McCartney bass you are seeking, anyway.

You're not all that far from Columbus (Pickguardian).cheyenne wrote:I'd be very interested in a correct vintage style guard for my 4003S.aceonbass wrote:The one thing you cant get from RIC is a vintage style guard that fits the current mounting hole locations. I've bought Tony's guards in the past, all top notch.
I'll probably wait until my 4003S is delivered before I decide to change out any parts anyway.

This is what you want:cheyenne wrote:I'd be very interested in a correct vintage style guard for my 4003S.

You can get it with holes to match the stock 4003 pickguard holes or vintage hole locations.
I just ordered a back painted white one for my new 4003s

Have you seen this one Tony made for me in 2008?lordblackmore wrote:This is what you want:cheyenne wrote:I'd be very interested in a correct vintage style guard for my 4003S.

That particular guard that Pickguardian makes has the same awkward lumpy shape to the control area that RIC came up with in 1997. The vintage style guards that I make for these basses have the contours in this area smoothed out like earlier models.lordblackmore wrote:This is what you want:cheyenne wrote:I'd be very interested in a correct vintage style guard for my 4003S.

Re: The 4003S is back!!!
about that 1/2" spacing on the toaster Jeff, Did you have to do some routing? if so, do you have some pics of how you did it?

Re: The 4003S is back!!!
The routing for the 1/2" position is not a good idea. My 2010 4003 has a very slight negative neck angle with the stock routing.
Re: The 4003S is back!!!
That's interesting Dane, and as usual, good to know. I was just curious to see how people get the 1/2" spacing on a modern 4003,its definitely not worth it for me if it causes structural problems though.
How about the V63's and C64's though? are they of a different construction to allow for the 1/2" spacing
